The late PPNB remains of Hayaz Höyük were excavated from 1979-1983 by the Netherlands Institute at Istanbul.
Hayaz Höyük was a small mound on the right bank of the Turkish lower Euphrates and has been flooded by the Atatürk reservoir. [1]
The two radiocarbon dates confirm a late PPNB occupation, which had been indicated by the presence of so called Y-blades and several sickle blades, too (s. Nevali Cori). The main range (64,2%) of the older date lays between 7478 cal BC and 7305 cal BC. [2]
The two dates are in good accordance with the stratigraphy, with the younger date coming from the upper layers and the older one from the initial phase of the occupation (Roodenberg 1989).
[1] I' am very grateful to Michael Blömer, University of Münster, and Mr. Krüger for the precise location of the site (electronic comm. 9th, Nov. 2011).
[2] The 1-sigma range is 7478-7305 cal BC (64,2%) and 7216-7201 (4%). The date has been calibrated with the OxCal 4.1 version.
